“Truly Heaven”-MilfordSound (New Zealand)

Experiencing the nature at its bounty in New Zealand is endless. All writers, bloggers, naturel lovers, explorers and travel magazines always write pages and pages of the NZ’s  abundant beauty.  Be it the vast landscapes or the huge picturesque lakes surrounded by snow capped mountains or the  beautiful sea overlooking its gorgeous blue sky, New Zealand is one country were you never feel a dull moment.

Driving around in this country is so awesome as you have the roads all for yourself;) in most of the places. I have posted earlier about our driving experience from Wellington to Martinborough in this blog.

Milford Sound, the gorgeous UNESCO heritage Fjord of New Zealand, is true to its name and is a must visit place for any traveller.

We actually wanted to drive from Queenstown to Milford sound, but read so much about the layers of snow in the road and there is always the risk of road being closed  (besides being risky) and later decided to drive only till Queenstown.

We booked our day trip with the tour operator “Go Orange” from India in advance. As we drove from Wanaka town to Queenstown, we experienced the snow and the slippery road and felt happy that we have not planned our Milford sound journey by car.

It was in the month of September when the snow was still very heavy. The first day prior to our trip, weathermen predicted heavy snowfall and the tour operator was not sure whether it’ll happen the next day. Milford sound being our last destination and most wanted spot, we were little disturbed that it might get cancelled after travelling for 15 days in NZ.

Luckily by late evening the Go Orange team called us and confirmed that the route is cleared and snow fall is stopped , so the tour is on. 🙂

Next day, ie September 12th was a special day for us (yes, it was our 24 th wedding anniversary). Go orange  had organised the tour very well;  they picked us from our hotel Holiday Inn by 6.15 am as promised.  It took about 2 hours for the first breakfast stop, Te Anau approximately 172 kms from Queenstown. Te Anau is midway between Queenstown and Milford sound which is a resting place for all travellers. We had our fresh croissant, coffee and banana and ready for the next 2 hour ride. The transparent roof top of the bus added beautiful views of snow capped mountains and the vast open land. Our driver who also doubled up as a tour guide, explained the history of New Zealand and the fjords enroute. There were few short stopovers for photoshoots at picturesque locales, but I would say that every mile was beautiful and stunning. As the entire members agreed upon this, we just told her go ahead, so that we don’t miss our cruise at 11.30 am. The most beautiful spot of all the great landscapes was the mirror lakes. This particular point was beautiful and in one word its” awestruck”.

We reached our destination the Milford Sound and our cruise tickets were handed over with us in the form of wrist bands. It’s a 2 hour journey in fjord land. This cruise was really great, the spectacular change of colours in sky, water and the scenic beauty was too much for our eyes and mind to absorb at one go. We were bathed in the nature’s beauty and could not sit for a moment as we were constantly looking around so that nothing is missed out.

The Cruise ended with hot fries, sandwiches and hot chocolate/coffee. By 2 pm our bus left the beautiful fjord land to the city. As always the return journey was faster and most of us slept off after being mesmerised by the nature. It looked like everyone wanted to behold that beauty for a long time.
