We took Transavia from Paris Orly airport to Prague. The journey time is only 1 hour 45 minutes. Prague Vaclav Havel airport is comparatively a smaller airport than other cities, but have all the facilities for the traveler. The Airport transfers were very comfortable and buses are quite frequent. Since we landed by 8.30 pm, we pre-booked the taxi from our Hotel Ibis old town Praha as we preferred to travel at ease and not to waste time to look out for public transport. We paid about 600 Czech kroner one way. Our hotel was located in the city centre and all the main attractions were within 2 kilometres radius.
The beauty of this city is that it could be explored by walking in one day and get the feel that you have already spent many days there. Each part of the city has its own charm. If you are a frequent traveler to many European cities, Prague also gives you the feel of any typical European city with Squares and Piazzas, cafes along the canals, flocks of Asian tourists , Cathedrals and Castles, which is true to certain extent.

Our exploration of Prague on the day of arrival was limited to the neighborhood Palladium mall for dinner. We found an Indian restaurant (Maharaja) and walked the square and retired to bed. The stay at Ibis old town Praha, satisfied our stay needs. Typical Budget hotel style with clean and neat linens, comfortable mattresses and quiet stay with decent breakfast menu. Nothing was disappointing and were usual. They had locker storage facilities, which was of a great benefit to us.
Next day morning after breakfast at ibis, which was really sumptuous and filling, we headed to explore the city. What a great way to celebrate our Silver jubilee anniversary;), walking hand in hand in the cobbled stone squares, sipping ice tea and having delicious pasta, trying out the bohemian ice-cream and shopping. A memorable day in our life.
We first just walked along the tourist spots. Most of the must-see places are in the old town Praha and entire Prague city itself could be explored by walk as I suggested earlier. The View from Powder tower were beautiful, though the steps were very steep. About 250 to 300 steps were there and the first 70 were very steep and spiral which was little difficult and then it was comparatively better.

The entrance fees per adult was around 100 CZK. The best part of any city center exploring is just keep strolling and admire the crowd, the buildings, the clear deep blue sky and get closer to local culture and cuisine.
The Old Astronomical Clock was under renovation at the time of our visit. So we could not see its action which we read much in the other travel blogs and trip advisor notes. But we enjoyed the Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí), by walking across the square and took short breaks in one of those cafes relaxing, and watching people around us.
The walk from Old town square to Karlov Most or the famous Charles Bridge took 20 to 25 minutes. The walk along the bridge is one of the famous and must do itinerary for any tourists. So the Charles bridge is always crowded and it has lots of photoshoots spots which added to the crowd. Actually this bridge connects the Old town and Mala Strana the famous shopping street which leads to the Prague Castle. This walk from Old town square through Charles bridge via Mala Strana is the best spot and the famous spot of Prague.
The Prague Castle was good from the exterior, we never went in as we were running out of time. The change of guards march past was nice to see, and it’s a typical marching style in most of the European castles or royal palaces.
We loved the stroll along the Mala Strana though it was little tiring, as we were walking all day. The sugar coated huge bohemian ice-cream filled with your choice of fruits and flavour was mind blowing. The size of the ice-cream, the taste and the sugar attracts hundreds of honeybees and they were hovering around each one of the individual whoever were carrying it. You could literally hear the buzzing sound of the bees above your head.
The sunset at Charles bridge and the Castle at backdrop is a stunning view. Our day at Prague ended with this majestic and memorable view and we walked back to our hotel to pick our luggage and left to the Prague main railway station. Taxi charges around 150-200 CZK for the drop.
The Prague station was neat and good. The platform announcements are made just 10 minutes prior to the arrival/ departure of the trains. So we have to be alert to check and run to those platforms. The platforms at Prague should be well lit same as their main reservation counters. Most of the platforms were dark and poorly lit. We booked Euro night 447 to Krakow from Prague. The train journey was very comfortable and had great experience. The Coach assistant was very helpful, and the first class couchettes with private showers and bathroom were very comfortable and luxury. Coach was well maintained, furnished with neat linens, toiletries, water bottles, snacks and early morning the attendant greeted you with hot coffee and breakfast sandwiches. Unforgettable train journey though it was been rated by people as the scary travel journey.
Look forward for the updates on the Krakow and Auschwitz – Birkenau concentration camp tour.
